About the Exhibition

GASBON METABOLISMでは、大山友輝朗による個展「円環」を開催しました。大山友輝朗は、長時間露光によるモノクロ写真を通して、風景の中に堆積する時間を静かに写し出してきた写真家です。これまで全国各地の古墳を撮影したシリーズでは、人間の営みの痕跡が千年という時間の中で変化し、風景の一部となっていく姿を捉えてきました。そこには人が葬られた場所としての意味を超え、時間そのものが形を変えながら現れる空間が写し出されています。

GASBON METABOLISM presented "Annulus," a solo exhibition by Yukio Oyama. Through long-exposure monochrome photography, Oyama has quietly captured the time that accumulates within a landscape. In his series photographing ancient burial mounds (kofun) across Japan, he has traced how the traces of human activity transform over a thousand years to become part of the landscape — revealing a space where time itself appears, changing form, beyond the mounds' meaning as places of burial.

本展のタイトル「円環」は、生と死を含む生命の循環を示すイメージです。植物の種を採り、また蒔くという日常の実践から着想を得ながら、大山は時間が閉じることなく巡り続ける様を写真という静止した媒体に定着させています。長時間露光によって像に折り重なる時間は、一枚の風景の中に過去・現在・これから訪れる時間を同居させます。

The title "Annulus" is an image of the cycle of life, encompassing both life and death. Drawing on the everyday practice of collecting and resowing plant seeds, Oyama fixes the ceaseless circulation of time onto the still medium of the photograph. The time layered into each image through long exposure lets past, present and time-yet-to-come coexist within a single landscape.
